Frazier History Museum, November 10–December 10, 2016
This nationally traveling exhibition will bring the 1623 original edition of the First Folio — Shakespeare’s first published collection of his plays — to Louisville. The First Folio was compiled by two of Shakespeare’s fellow actors and published just seven years after the playwright’s death. It contains 36 of Shakespeare’s plays including some of his greatest works: Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra, The Comedy of Errors, and As You Like It.
First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare is offered by the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, in collaboration with the Folger Shakespeare Library and Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC). The tour is made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor.
